It is no surprise that the lighting industry has en-masse chosen to abandon CFL growth and concentrate on LEDs.
So should you be purchasing LED light bulbs at the moment? And since modern LEDs last over 50,000 hours (compared to 2,000 for routine light bulbs) the return on investment just keeps rolling.
Today some people will argue that it is sensible to wait until LEDs are both cheaper and much more effective, but again if you run the mathematics you will find that in actuality, it’s far better to replace perfectly functional light bulbs with LEDs today and then plan to replace them in a couple of years, even though they will still have years of life. How so? Since the cost of electric lighting pretty much equates to the cost of power – it’s all in operating costs, not the hardware cost.
